Objectivism is the guiding force in my life. So what is Objectivism? It is a philosophy which deals with every aspect of human existence: politics, ethics, love, etc. This philosophy was developed by Ayn Rand in the early part of the 20th century. Ms. Rand first wrote several fictional novels, and then switched to non-fiction after penning her most popular work, Atlas Shrugged.

Her non-fiction works like Virtue of Selfishness and Philosophy: Who Needs It? detail the beliefs reflected in her fictional work ...

"My philosophy, in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute."

"Value is that which one acts to gain and/or keep - virtue is the act by which one gains and/or keeps it. The three cardinal values of the Objectivist ethics - the three values which, together, are the means to and the realization of one's ultimate value, one's own life - are: Reason, Purpose, Self-Esteem, with their three corresponding virtues: Rationality, Productiveness, Pride.

Productive work is the central purpose of a rational man's life, the central value that integrates and determines the hierarchy of all his other values. Reason is the source, the precondition of his productive work - pride is the result."

"I have something to say to the religionist who feels atheists never say anything positive: You are an intelligent human being. Your life is valuable for its own sake. You are not second-class in the universe, deriving meaning and purpose from some other mind. You are not inherently evil -- you are inherently human, possessing the positive rational potential to help make this a world of morality, peace and joy. Trust yourself."
